Orioles hit four homers in rout of Yankees

Baseball Betting Lines

07/28/2008 - Bronx, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Adam Jones clubbed his first major league grand slam and drove in a career-best five runs, as the Baltimore Orioles battered the Yankees, 13-4, snapping New York's 10-game home winning streak.

Kevin Millar had three hits, including a three-run homer, and Aubrey Huff belted a two-run homer in the opener of a three-game series. Ramon Hernandez also homered for Baltimore, which has won two straight following a five-game skid.

The Orioles, who are mired in last place in the AL East, also got a decent pitching performance from Jeremy Guthrie as he allowed three hits and a run over 6 1/3 innings. Guthrie (7-8) won for the fourth time in his last five decisions.

Mike Mussina (13-7) was rocked for eight hits and six runs in five innings for the Yankees, who have lost two in a row after a season-best eight-game winning streak to start the post All-Star break. It was Mussina's first loss since June 30.

"It was tough in the beginning," said Mussina. "It wasn't a lot of fun and it wasn't a good day for me to be pitching."

Johnny Damon smacked a three-run homer and Xavier Nady had his first hit as a Yankee, a solo homer to left-center field in the seventh inning. But, the Yankees were outhit, 17-9, and gave up the first 11 runs of the game.

Despite the loss, the Yankees remain three games behind Tampa Bay for first place in the AL East.

It appears the Yankees will have to go with Jose Molina as their starting catcher for the foreseeable future, maybe for the remainder of the season. That's because earlier Monday Yankees general manager Brian Cashman disclosed five-time All-Star Jorge Posada will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder.

Brian Roberts was thrown out at home by Derek Jeter trying to score on a Nick Markakis double in the opening inning, but the Orioles got to Mussina in the second. Melvin Mora and Luke Scott singled, and Millar then homered to left field. Hernandez followed by taking a 2-2 offering over the wall in center for his 1,000th career hit.

"It's a good way to start a game against a team that's hot and has been playing well," said Guthrie. "Those were four big runs against a good pitcher who has been dealing so it's nice."

Roberts doubled to begin the fifth, and Jones then tripled to right-center. A Huff sacrifice fly extended the lead to 6-0.

"We got Mussina's pitch count up quick," Orioles manager Dave Trembley said. "He's a guy who's pitching to get you to hit his pitch and we didn't do that early in the game,"

David Robertson retired just one batter in a horrific sixth inning for the Yankees when he gave up five runs on four hits. Juan Castro's infield single to deep shortstop plated Scott, and after Roberts was walked to load the bases, Jones took a 3-2 pitch well over the wall in left field.

Nady homered with one out in the seventh, and later in the inning Damon belted his first ball over the fence after a 156 at-bat homerless drought.

Huff homered off Kyle Farnsworth in the eighth.

MySportsbook.com week 1 NFL lines

Now that the 2007 NFL schedule is finally out, it is only matter-of-course for lines on “Week 1” to follow.  Of course MySportsbook.com is the first to churn out odds for the NFL’s inaugural week for the upcoming season.   Expect a lot of fireworks the first Thursday night of the season as the defending champion Indianapolis Colts face off against the surprise of the 2007 season, the New Orleans Saints.  These teams were ranked #1 and #3 in the NFL respectively a season ago so a high scoring affair could be in order.  As of now, the Colts will be giving 6 points to the Saints; keep in mind the Saints were one of the better road teams last season going 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS.  The first Monday night of the season will again provide a “double feature”. Coming off a disappointing season, the Cincinnati Bengals will look to get back to playoffs and improve their public image as they take on the AFC North favorite Baltimore Ravens.  The second game features a couple of teams that haven’t had too much success recently but each could make some noise if the NFC is as weak as it was last year as the San Francisco 49ers host the Arizona Cardinals. The most interesting game of the opening week will feature the NFC champion Bears as they hit the road to take on the NFL’s top team during last year’s regular season, the San Diego Chargers.
