Reno, NV (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jeff Overton fired a seven-under 65 Thursday to
take a two-stroke lead after the opening round of the Reno-Tahoe Open at
Montreux Golf and Country Club.
Brian Davis, a two-time winner on the European Tour, posted a five-under 67
and shares second place with one-time Nationwide Tour winners Harrison Frazar,
Marco Dawson and John Merrick.
Jason Gore and former Masters champ Larry Mize are part of a large group tied
at minus-four.
Meanwhile, Michelle Wie had and up-and-down round Thursday as she carded four
bogeys and three birdies in a round of one-over 73. That left her tied for
77th, which is over the current cut line of even-par.
Wie tripped to a bogey at the first and missed the green at the fifth leading
to her second bogey. She bounced back with a five-foot birdie putt on six and
got back to even-par with a six-foot birdie putt at nine.
Around the turn, Wie found a bunker off the tee at the par-three 12th, then
blasted her second over the green. She managed to get up and down for bogey.
Wie dropped another shot on the 16th, but atoned for that error with tap-in
birdie on the par-five 17th. She parred the last from a greenside bunker to
card a 73.
Overton ran off four straight birdies from the second to fly up the
leaderboard. He made the turn in minus-five thanks to a birdie at the ninth.
On the back nine, Overton converted birdies at 11 and 13 to get to seven-
under. He did drop a shot at the 14th, but came back to birdie No. 17 to take
a two-shot lead after one round.
"I hit a lot of fairways to start off and put myself in excellent shape the
first few holes," said Overton, a member of the 2005 U.S. Walker Cup team. "I
hit the ball great all day and was able to clean up my putts inside 10 feet.
Whenever you're making all of your putts inside 12, 15 feet, with the
exception of the last hole, you're going to play well."
Overton has been struggling this season as he has made 11 of 22 cuts and has
just one top-10 finish. He is coming off a missed cut at the Canadian Open and
a share of 70th at the British Open, but the prior two events were his best of
the year.
The 25-year-old tied for ninth at the AT&T National and shared 24th at the
John Deere Classic. Overton's best tour finish came at the 2007 Wyndham
Championship, where he tied for second place.
Gore and Mize were joined in a share of sixth place by Cameron Beckman, Carlos
Franco, Jay Delsing, Ian Leggatt, Mathias Gronberg, Tag Ridings, Charles
Warren, Omar Uresti, Michael Allen, Kevin Streelman and Parker McLachlin.
Notah Begay III and Mark Brooks are among nine players one shot back at three-
under 69.

Matt Kenseth And Kevin Harvick Favorites To Take NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship
(September 15, 2007)—The NASCAR season has hit the homestretch with the opening event on this year’s Chase for the Cup taking place this weekend at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With 10 races remaining to determine the Cup Series champion, leading online sportsbook MySportsbook.com today announced odds on all 10 Chase qualifying drivers capturing the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship.
One of the largest sportsbook sites on the Internet, MySportsbook.com currently lists the top two drivers in the point standings as the early favorites to win the Nextel Cup. Entering the Chase for the Cup with a slim five-point lead in the point standings, 2003 NASCAR champ Matt Kenseth has been made a slight favorite to win his second Cup at 7/2 betting odds. 2001 Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick has betting odds listed at 5/2 and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 6/1 to capture the Nextel Cup this year.
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father who won six NASCAR titles, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stands at 8/1 to breakthrough with his first Cup victory. Staying with the family theme, MySportsbook.com lists 2005 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch at 14/1 to succeed big brother Kurt’s 2004 NASCAR title. While Kasey Kahne was the final driver to qualify for the Chase with a third place finish last week, the oddsmakers give him a fighting chance at 10/1 mainly due to several mile-and-a-half tracks remaining on the schedule. Despite going winless on the NASCAR circuit this season, Jeff Burton enters the Chase at 5/1 to capture the Cup title. Meanwhile, rookie Denny Hamlin is 4/1 to win the championship, while veteran driver Mark Martin enters the Chase for the Cup as a 15/1 long shot to win his first NASCAR title in his 24th and final season.
MySportsbook.com will offer comprehensive Nascar betting odds on every race remaining on the Nextel Cup series including driver match-ups, props and odds to win each race. For a complete list of NASCAR odds, please visit www.MySportsbook.com.
