Padres' Greene headed to DL; Iguchi reinstated

San Diego, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The San Diego Padres placed shortstop Khalil
Greene on the 15-day disabled list Friday, retroactive to July 31, with a
fracture of the fifth metacarpal on his left hand and reinstated infielder
Tadahito Iguchi from the 15-day DL.
The injury occurred when Greene reportedly punched a storage chest outside the
home dugout during Wednesday's 7-3 loss to Arizona.
Greene has had a season to forget, batting just .213 with 10 homers and 35
runs batted in over 105 games. He hit 27 home runs and knocked in 97 runs last
season.
Iguchi had been sidelined since June 6 with a separated right shoulder. He
sustained the injury when he fell onto his right shoulder while running the
bases during a game against the Mets on June 5. Iguchi batted .259 with two
home runs and 20 RBI in 59 games for San Diego before the injury.
The club also announced that outfielder Chip Ambres has cleared waivers and
has been sent to Triple-A Portland.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.

Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
