handed pitcher Chris Young from the 15-day disabled list in time make his
first start in more than two months on Tuesday against Arizona.
Young took the mound for the first time since he was hit in the face by a line
drive off the bat of St. Louis' Albert Pujols on May 21, breaking his nose and
fracturing his skull.
The 6-foot-10 Young was sharp in the start as he threw five scoreless innings
and gave up just two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts while throwing
88 pitches.
San Diego, though, lost the game, 3-0.
Young is 4-4 with a 4.12 ERA in 11 starts. To make room for him, the Padres
designated outfielder Chip Ambres for assignment.
