Welcome Back Sanchez! Marlins hurler dazzles Rockies
Baseball Betting Lines
07/31/2008 -
Miami, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jeremy Hermida drove in two runs and scored
three, and Anibal Sanchez was sharp in his 2008 debut, as the Florida Marlins walloped the Colorado Rockies, 12-2, in the opener of a four-game set
at Dolphin Stadium.
Making his first start in the majors since May 2, 2007, Sanchez (1-0) allowed
two runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings to get his first win since April 21 of
last year. Sanchez went 2-1 with a 4.80 earned run average in six games for
the Marlins last year before undergoing right shoulder surgery on June 21. The
right-hander won 10 games and threw a no-hitter against Arizona as a rookie in
2006.
Hermida finished with three hits for the Marlins, who have won five of their
last seven contests and trail the Philadelphia Phillies by 1 1/2 games for
first place in the tight NL East. Dan Uggla finished 2-for-4 and knocked in
two runs, while Jorge Cantu and Hanley Ramirez each belted a solo home run.
The Marlins bolstered their bullpen before the non-waiver trading deadline on
Thursday, acquiring left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor league pitcher Gaby Hernandez, but lost out on
left fielder Manny Ramirez. Florida was reportedly engaged in serious talks
with Boston to acquire the slugger, but a deal never materialized. Ramirez was
eventually dealt to Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-way deal involving the
Pittsburgh Pirates.
Colorado starter Jorge De La Rosa (5-6) lasted only 1 2/3 frames and was
victimized for seven runs on five hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
Kip Wells surrendered four runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief.
Omar Quintanilla and Ian Stewart each knocked in a run for the Rockies, who
have dropped three of their last four games.
The start of the game was delayed 43 minutes due to rain.
After Cantu clubbed his 19th home run of the season with two gone in the
first, the Marlins broke the game open with a six-run surge in the second.
With two outs and the bases loaded, De La Rosa walked Ramirez to score Wes
Helms, who had reached on a one-out single. Hermida followed with a grounder
up the middle that plated two more runners.
Cantu was then hit by a pitch to reload the bases for Josh Willingham, who
walked to force in another run. A two-run double from Uggla gave the Marlins a
7-0 lead and ended De La Rosa's night. Wells took over on the mound and
retired Helms to end the inning.
Colorado got on the board in the fourth on an Stewart RBI single, but the
Marlins countered with three runs in their half of the fourth for a 10-1
lead. With two outs and a runner on third, Wells issued three straight walks
to Uggla, Helms and Cody Ross to bring in a run. John Baker then ripped a two-
run single to left.
The Marlins added another run in the fifth on Ramirez's 25th home run,
a lead-off smash to left.
An RBI single from Quintanilla trimmed the deficit to 11-2 in the sixth, and
Helms' RBI single gave the Marlins a 12-2 lead in the ninth.
Game Notes
To make room for Rhodes, the club optioned infielder Robert Andino to Triple-A
Albuquerque. Florida also transferred pitcher Burke Badenhop from the 15-day
to the 60-day disabled list...Cantu has hit safely in nine straight
games...Colorado left nine men on base, while the Marlins stranded
eight...Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez (7-9) and Florida's Chris Volstad (2-1) are
scheduled to start on Friday.

March Madness odds and printable March Madness brackets
With the field of 64/65 set, MySportsbook.com has the Florida Gators as the 4-1 favorite to successfully defend their National Championship. Men’s Division-1 College Basketball has not seen a team repeat as National Champions since Duke won back to back championships in ’91 & ‘92. After losing three out of four late in the season, the Gators are full of momentum as they won their last four games by an average of 18 points. Not surprisingly, right behind the Gators are the other three top seeds: Kansas 5-1, UNC 6-1, and Ohio State 7-1. Many consider Kansas to be the hottest team in the country, having won 11 straight. With Kansas, it is hard to ignore all of the early exits from the “dance” in recent years. With an impressive ACC Tournament, UNC ensured themselves the other top seed. UNC has about as much talent as any other team in the tournament but with a team that’s best players are primarily freshman and sophomores, could youth be a concern. Behind freshman sensation, Greg Oden, OSU will look to do what their football team failed to do just a few months earlier. OSU seems to have peeked at the right time, as they currently have a 17 game winning streak. Since the tournament field was expanded in 1985, there has never been an instance where all four #1 seeds advanced to the Final Four. It is obvious that each of the top seeds have the talent to make it through to Atlanta. But as everyone knows, when makes the NCAA Tournament so special are all of the spoilers and “Cinderella” stories that knock off the favorites on a daily basis.

Albert Pujols to be This Year's Home Run Champ Says Online Sportsbook
Barry Bonds is a 50-1 long shot to be this year's home run champ odds. The favorite to be this year's home run champ is none other than Albert Pujols, however.
Now that Barry Bonds is signed and in Giants camp, it is on to his pursuit of all of sports most prestigious records: the all-time home run mark. Bonds sits just 21 homers shy of tying Hank Aaron for the career mark at 755. Word out of Giants’ camp is that Bonds is the healthiest he has been in a few years. Bonds is just two seasons removed from his injury riddled 2005 campaign where he played in only 14 games and hit only 5 home runs. He did come back last year and had a solid season hitting .270 with 26 bombs. All eyes will be on Bonds this spring and summer not only because of his home run chase but his highly publicized steroid abuse allegations. If and when Bonds breaks the record, he surely will not get the positive attention one should for breaking a record that was once thought of as “unbreakable”. Despite Bonds decent season last year, he is just 50-1 at MySportsbook.com to lead the MLB in long balls this season.
Not surprisingly, the favorites to go deep the most times this season are Albert Pujols 5-1, Ryan Howard 6-1, David Ortiz 8-1 and Alex Rodriguez 12-1. With 49 homers, Pujols finished second in the National League behind Howard (58). Pujols is considered the favorite due to the consistent power numbers that he has posted since breaking into the league in 2001. Also one must consider the fact that he played in 16 fewer games then Howard did due to an injury. Howard smashed 58 homers in his first complete season of big league play en route to the National League MVP odds award. He silenced his critics by successfully hitting left-handed pitching. Howard also displayed the ability to use his power to the opposite field. Two attributes which should keep Howard amongst the league leaders in long balls for years to come. From the American League representatives, David Ortiz leads the field. Ortiz was second in the majors last year with 54 home runs. Except for 1999 when he only played in 10 games, Ortiz has improved on his home run numbers each year he has been in the majors (1997).
